Things You Can Do To Assure A Smooth Move:
Advise movers before starting a job what they will and will not be moving. Before leaving old residence, make a thorough inspection to be sure nothing is forgotten (don't forget your house keys). At your new residence, be sure someone is there to meet the movers. It is very helpful if you direct the movers, with each item, for proper placement as it is brought in. When finished, check the truck yourself to be sure nothing is forgotten. Elevator Moves - Check with building management for use and key on moving day. It is very helpful for you or a friend to help watch your goods in hallways, elevators, and loading areas.
Lampshades
Line 3 or 4.5 cu. ft carton with tissue paper, leaving enough paper hanging over sides to cover shade. Use a dishpack for smaller shades and glass chimneys.
Handling shade by wire frames, place in box; cover with tissue paper.
Pack crumpled tissue paper (not newsprint) around sides. Fold lining over top. Note: Lampshades may be nested if possible. (Do not nest silk shades.) Never place other articles in same carton with shades.
Lamp Bases
Remove light bulb and lamp harp.
Wrap all components separately in newsprint.
Place base upright, bottom first, along with harp in appropriate-size carton.
Stemware and other very fragile items
Wrap individually in tissue paper. Place only in top layer of dishpack.
Lift double thickness of tissue paper from corner, fold over glass.
Fold in both sides of paper; loosely roll into package.
Place in dishpack stem side up.
